Ciudad de Guatemala, Guatemala
The project is a surgical hospital that adopts a base and tower typology for a 12-story building, with 9 stories above ground. The 3-story base blends into the surrounding low-rise buildings, while the 5-story central tower optimizes the building’s distance from the property lines. This arrangement facilitates natural light, ventilation, and privacy, minimizing shadows cast on neighboring buildings. The main entrance is on 20th Street. The emergency entrance is located on the east facade. Services are situated to the south, reducing their acoustic and visual impact on the residential area.
The building adopts a coherent and functional layout with two main circulation fluxes: one for outpatients, open to the West garden, and another for clinical areas, restricted to professionals and patients undergoing special tests. The outpatient areas are located between these two circulation routes, while the more internal clinical areas are linked to a double clinical circulation, optimizing staff flow and avoiding crossings between different uses.
A therapeutic garden for users is integrated into the roof of the base. These spaces are essential for reducing pre- and post-operative stress, providing positive sensory stimulation, and fostering a more humanized experience for patients, their companions, and staff, contributing to reduced exhaustion, improved concentration, and the promotion of emotional well-being.
