BREEAM® certification

SUSTAINABILITY

BREEAM® certification —Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method— is the most widely recognised and established sustainability standard in Europe for the assessment and certification of buildings. In the field of hospital architecture, its application significantly improves the hospital’s energy efficiency, the quality of the indoor environment, resource management and people’s wellbeing, integrating environmental criteria from the earliest stages of the project. Certified sustainability is, ultimately, a key tool for developing hospital architecture that is more efficient, responsible and user-centred.

At Planho, we support our clients throughout the entire BREEAM® certification process, within the framework of the BREEAM® ES New Construction scheme, from the initial feasibility and design stages through to obtaining the final certificate in the post-construction phase. Planho has accredited assessors who develop sustainability strategies adapted to each project, particularly in the field of hospital architecture and other tertiary-sector buildings.

During the design phase, Planho carries out the initial pre-assessment, defines the strategy to achieve the target rating, coordinates the different stakeholders involved and manages the project registration required to obtain the provisional certificate. During the tendering phase, we integrate sustainability criteria into the specifications and assess proposals from an environmental perspective.

During the construction phase, we monitor the certification process, coordinate the collection of evidence and prepare the documentation required to obtain the final certificate. At Planho, we approach BREEAM® certification as a strategic tool that adds value to hospital architecture, optimising the hospital’s performance throughout its entire life cycle.
