Much of the complexity of hospital architecture lies in the organization of circulation flows. In this case, due to the specific nature of the hospital type and the characteristics of its therapies and model of coexistence, this aspect becomes particularly significant. The discipline imposed by a structured circulation scheme triggers possibilities for accessibility to the different areas and promotes user independence.
Closely linked to the circulation structure is the zoning system. In this new organization, the centralized core of the existing hospital takes on a secondary position and serves exclusively as a visitor area. In this way, a hospital with an X-shaped layout and a single centralized vertical circulation core is transformed into one with several specialized cores supported by the main corridor that runs from the original building to the northwest end, connecting with the new pavilions.
The image of the hospital changes radically in order to adapt it to that of a benchmark technological building. For this reason, the proposed functional grouping has resulted in a compact building that integrates volumetrically with the original structure.
